Isabella STEWART (b 1855)
- Birth: 19 Feb 1855 in Barrhead (Renfrewshire) Scotland
- Death: 16 Jun 1865 in Milton, Glasgow (Lanarkshire) Scotland
- Father: William STUART (b c1826)
- Mother: Isabella McCarter LITTLE (b 1826)
Isabella was the second daughter and third child of her parents William Stuart (b c1826) and Isabella McCarter Little (b 1826). Her birth was recorded in the very first year of Statutory Registration in Scotland, a year when an extensive amount of information was recorded. The record reported the birth of Isabella Stewart, female, at 1:00 am on the morning of 19 Feb 1855 in Barrhead. The record also provided what may be the most reliable information concerning her father's date of birth (c1825) and birthplace (Grahamston, Neilston Parish). The informant for her birth was a cousin, Robert Law, probably the son of mother Isabella McCarter Little's younger sister Ann.
The 1861 Census reported that Isabella was living with her parents at 64 Maitland Street in Glasgow. She was given the age of two when she was actually five. The census enumerator was confused about the ages of all the children in the household.
Isabella died of typhoid fever at her home at 62 Stewart Street in Glasgow on 16 Jun 1865 at age 10. She had been sick for 14 days. Her father reported her death the next day and his hand was so shaky he could barely sign his name. I have found no record reporting where she was buried in 1865 but her remains were finally interred in the High Kirk cemetery in Rothesay on 20 Feb 1892.
