Victoria STUART (b 1890)
- Birth: 05 Oct 1890 in Kelvin, Glasgow (Lanarkshire) Scotland
- Death: 15 Jun 1939 in Glasgow (Lanarkshire) Scotland
- Father: William STUART (b 1852)
- Mother: Mary Jane MCHARDY (b 1857)
- Spouse: Alexander Cochrane Ogilvie MCDONALD (b 1891) (m 1912) (d 1941)
- Child: Robert MCDONALD (b 15 Feb 1921 in Possilpark (Lanarkshire) Scotland)
The ninth child and fifth daughter born to William Stuart (b 1852) and Mary Jane McHardy was named Victoria. She was born at 8:45 p.m. on 05 October 1890 at 20 Raeberry Street in the Kelvin District of Glasgow. Her father reported the event on 18 October. The name Victoria does not appear in earlier generations of either parents' family. Victoria was almost certainly named after Queen Victoria who had celebrated her Golden Jubilee only three years earlier in 1887.
Victoria appeared with her parents at 20 Raeberry Street in the census of 1891 and again in 1901. In 1901, Victoria was 10 and in school.
Victoria married Alexander Cochrane Ogilvie McDonald on 20 Sep 1912 at 17 Queen Margaret Drive, the officiating minister's home, in the Maryhill district of Glasgow, after banns according to the forms of the Church of Scotland. The minister was the same Charles Whitehead Hutcheson, minister of St Cuthbert's Parish, who would perform her sister Mary's wedding at the same Queen Margaret Drive location in 1913. Victoria's sister Mary Stuart and John Webster Anderson served as witnesses.
Victoria was 21 when she married. She gave her occupation as hardware saleswoman. Presumably, she, too, worked for her father in the family hardware store. Although the address was close by, she was apparently living on her own when she married. Both she and Alexander listed the same home address, 11 Firhill Road.
Alexander, too, was 21 and a house factor's clerk. His father, Robert McDonald, was a journeyman brass finisher. His mother was Jessie McDonald, formerly Rigby, nee Perry. Both sets of parents were alive at the time of the wedding in 1912.
Victoria died of myocarditis and cardiac failure at age 48. Her death occurred at home at 4 Bonawe Street (an address not far from Firhill Road) in the Maryhill district of Glasgow at 10:40 am on 15 June 1939. Her husband survived her and was the informant on the occasion of her death.
Two years after her death, Alex himself died suddenly, just before 5:00 am on 07 January 1941 in the Queen Street Station in Glasgow. Presumably, he was on his way to work when stricken by a heart attack. He was 49. He had moved very recently from Bonawe Street to 29 Braeside Street in Glasgow.
Victoria and Alex had a son, Robert McDonald, born on 15 February 1921 at 75 Mansion Street in the Possilpark area of Glasgow. Robert married Elizabeth Brown on 04 February 1946 while he was serving in the Royal Air Force. He married a second time, to Georgina [Torrance] Blair on 13 Jul 1979. Both were divorced at the time of that marriage. Robert gave his occupation as joiner. Robert died of a brain tumor at the age of 60 in 1981. His usual residence at the time was recorded as 518 Greenhills Crescent in Linwood, Renfrewshire. I do not know if there were children from Robert's first marriage, but the informant at the time of Robert's death was his brother-in-law, L Will.
I do not know the burial location of Victoria or her husband Alex or their son Robert.
