William STUART (b 1874)

William was his parent's first child. He was born prematurely and died after only three hours of life at 9:00 p.m. on 30 Nov 1874. He died at 43 West Milton Street in Glasgow. Thomas Smith was the surgeon who attended the mother and child. The child's birth and death were reported the following day, December first.

The name given to this first child fulfilled the demands of the traditional pattern for naming children. William was named after his father's father. In this case, he also received the name of his mother's father. Because he did not survive, the name was to be given again to the next son born to the couple.
